Recently, residents of a remote village in Cambodia were awakened after a series of metal fragments fell on their homes and surrounding areas.

According to IFLScience, residents of Preah Vihear Province said they heard a loud crash at around 6 a.m. local time. They ran outside and discovered dozens of pieces of aluminum weighing more than 40 kg falling on houses and surrounding areas, causing damage in an area with a radius of 10 km. Luckily no one was injured.

“That morning, I heard a loud bang and thought something bad had happened,” said resident Sok Nol. “When I ran out to look, I saw a large piece of metal in the middle of the field and other small pieces falling around. We thought a plane had crashed but we couldn’t find any large engines.” .

The villagers quickly collected the metal pieces and reported to the police, but when they arrived, the police could not determine what these metal pieces were or where they came from. Preah Vihear police chief Yin Chamnan confirmed that the metal pieces had been collected, adding that police could not yet determine where they came from. Currently, the fragments have been handed over to a group of experts to research and study.

“We found more than 17 pieces of aluminum and rubber falling from the sky. But we are still continuing to search and collect more information from people at the scene,” Chamnan shared. “It looks like the debris is from a drone. The debris is not too large.”
